Learning to Die – part 1

Posted by: Pastor

I am learning to die to self daily.
How about you? Are you a walking dead man? Are you denying your flesh’s desires? Are you saying “no” to sin? It’s tough to do even though we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. That’s why we need the Word of Christ dwelling in us richly according [...]

New Series – “Be Transformed”

Posted by: Pastor

On July 19th, I began preaching a new series on being transformed by the power of Christ. This will be a long series over the next 3 months and is based upon Romans 12:1-2:
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to [...]

New book! Strength in Numbers: The Team Approach to Biblical Counseling

Posted by: Markswife

Romans 15:14
“I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.”

In his new book, Strength in Numbers, Dr. Mark Shaw has presented the church in America [and abroad] with a replication model of ministry that can impact the Kingdom of [...]

Who is God’s delegated authority in your life?

Posted by: Markswife

We have been learning in our family integrated sunday school class about how the law of God in the 10 commandments can be likened to a banana :

Watch this!
What color is a banana?                      Yellow
Now open it up. What color is the part you eat?                  White

Now take a bite out of it, and look into the center [...]

An 8 year old asks a GREAT QUESTION! – Part 1

Posted by: Markswife

Recently, I spent some time with a group of children, playing board games and having fun. Later on in the day, we were talking about PSALM 139, and how God made us and knitte us together in our mother’s womb, and particularly I was describing the meaning and awe of the phrase, “He formed our inward parts.”
I [...]

Perception is NOT always Reality

Posted by: Pastor

I hear people and even counselors say, “Her perception is her reality.” While that is a half-true statement, it is not wholly truthful.
People believe lies. People deceive themselves. I do it, too, sometimes! None of us are immune to falling prey to self-deception and the lies of Satan. We “think” these lies are reality though [...]

Gospel Counseling

 Gospel Counseling:

I heard author Elyse Fitzpatrick say that she believes in biblical counseling and GOSPEL counseling. I like that term, “gospel counseling” because that’s really what we do.
We share the gospel with believers and unbelievers alike. Believers need the gospel reminder for sanctification and unbelievers need the gospel for salvation. Both need the gospel. In [...]

Guitar Grace

Posted by: Pastor

Neat story. True story. My son is 13 and plays guitar. One of his strings broke the same day we had it re-strung! Ouch!
He was upset when he told me about it. It was an accident. I told him that his Grandfather would take it back the next day with him to get it re-strung. I [...]

Victory To or From?

Posted by: Pastor

I met with two of our biblical counselors recently and they were discussing an interesting topic. Here was the question they were asking each other (and me!):
Are you operating TO victory
OR
are you operating FROM victory?
One little preposition makes a BIG difference. Think about the two of these for a moment. TO victory or FROM victory?
As [...]

“Already Gone” by Ken Ham and Britt Beemer

Posted by: Markswife

I have only read the first half of this intriguing new book, hot off the Bible-upholding, God-honoring presses of Answers in Genesis and I am on my face before the LORD.
Mark and I had the privilege of seeing Ken Ham speak while at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky in May, and once again came away [...]
